So to help you start off right and give you the confidence to connect with people on Facebook, regardless of whether you talk to them regularly or not, here are a few keys to get started…

I’ve done offline recruiting, online recruiting—I’ve done it all!

And you know what?

It’s all the same.

Now, I’m going to say this over and over, and it might sound cliché, but you have to lead with passion and your heart.

That’s how you connect, inspire, and lead.

And one more thing on the subject of leadership:

Not everyone is going to be your prospect, and that’s okay.

When you go into a conversation, you have to have good posture, good language, and good tonality.

Really focus on the language part, especially on Facebook where someone can’t see you – unless you’re doing Facebook Lives, of course.

It’s perfectly okay to use a script when you’re new.

Hey, we all love scripts.

However, you want to make sure your script sounds like YOU, and uses your voice.

We don’t all talk alike or use the same words.

Be REAL, or your Facebook friends will be like…

“What’s going on with Julie? She sounds automated.”

You definitely don’t want that!

Two quick tips on tonality…

  1. When you introduce yourself, you want to have an “upswing” in your voice. Try to sound peppy.
  2. When it is time for your close, you want to get a bit lower in your tone. Sound more direct and firm.

Starting and managing a conversation on Facebook is the same as it is offline.

Here’s the “Golden Rule”:

Start with a compliment.

Even if you are reconnecting with someone, give them a compliment too.

This really opens up the conversation.

I say this all the time…

You’ve got to manage your expectations because building relationships online takes time.

Let’s say you haven’t spoken to somebody in a while.

You have to first reconnect with them to build the relationship.

And this doesn’t happen overnight.

So don’t rush the process!

At first, your business might not come up in the conversation and that’s okay.

Again, you don’t need to rush it…

“Hey Sue, how are things? How’s the family? Looks like Johnny’s doing great at baseball.”

You’ve now started something with that person and now they are going to start checking you out and seeing what you are doing.

Then you can continue reaching out to them..

“What have you been up to lately? How’s business? How’s work?”

Get to know a lot about them and build the relationship.

You really want to get them talking about themselves so you can learn as much as you can from them.

If they start ask you…

“What have you been up to? What do you have going on? I see you are with this company…?”

…then you can decide if you want to further the conversation down that road, or you may not want to go there yet.

If you do this the right way, it might not take weeks or months before you start talking about your business, your product, services or an opportunity.

But you have to invest time and interest in them first.

You must learn to manage the conversation.

Make your first initial connection quick.

You’re not trying to convince them, sell your product, or get them to join!

Hold that posture, even if you are broke.

No one is going to join someone who comes across as desperate.

They’re just not.

If you are contacting a cold prospect over Facebook, you always want to be busy.

Even if someone expresses interest in your opportunity or wants what you have to offer, keep the conversation as fast as possible.

Here’s an example.

Prospect:

“Hey, can you tell me more about your products?”

Me:

“Great. I’m happy to fill you in. When do you have five minutes to chat? What’s your phone number?”

Now, one of two things will happen…

Outcome #1: They message you back

Great.

Schedule a time to chat with them and keep it to five minutes.

In this conversation, you can ask them what interests them and what they like, so you can get an idea of exactly what you will send them.

The purpose of this call is so that they can hear the excitement and passion in your voice.

There it is again, passion!

End the conversation, after five minutes, with something like…

“Listen, I have to run but I just wanted to see what you are looking for in terms of your travel, skin care, [insert your business product or service here]. Now I know what [product, tool, service] to send you.”

Set up a follow-up call before you end the conversation.

Keeping the conversation short, and always appearing to be in a rush, really takes the stress off the person you are speaking to.

People think that you are going to jump on the phone and take up all their time trying to sell them a product.

So I always say something like…

“I really only have five minutes, but I want to know what you’re curious about, and what your goals are, so I know what to send you.”

Setting up the follow-up helps you to control the conversation from day one.

Be in control.

This goes back to the posture.

Don’t leave the conversation open-ended with your business flailing about.

WRONG:

“Hey, take a look at this and call me if you are interested.”

RIGHT:

“I’m going to send you something. Let’s chat next [day] at [time].”

Outcome #2: They want the details now

The second outcome may be that they don’t message you their phone number, but instead respond with something like…

“Just tell me what it is.”

Now, to be honest, I really don’t spend time with these folks.

I’m not looking for people who just fly by the seat of their pants.

I want people who are really interested in what I have.

So don’t be too eager.

And don’t treat your cold prospects like cold prospects.

Instead, you want to treat them like people with a heart, who you have a solution for—and that’s what you’re here to offer them.

Whether they want it or not is up to them.

Imagine those salespeople at the mall.

You know who I’m talking about.

They’re standing outside stores.

They’re yelling and smacking their face creams together and saying things like…

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon. Sit at my chair. Get over here.”

What do you think when you walk by them and what do you do?

You have to think about that example in regards to your own business.

Is that who you want to be?

No, you don’t—right?

When you are reaching out to people, whether online or off, it’s the same approach.

You’re talking to someone with a heartbeat.

You’re talking to someone who either needs or wants what you have, or doesn’t.

So your job, of course, is to discover the people that want what you have.

What if you haven’t talked to someone in a while and maybe you are nervous about what to say?

You can simply reach out and say…

“Listen, Sue. I know we haven’t spoken in a while, but I have found something I am so passionate about. I don’t know if it is right for you, but if you have five minutes I would be so grateful if I could just fill you in on what it is. If it isn’t for you, it might be for somebody you know. Would you give me five minutes?”

It’s that simple.

Recognize that you haven’t talked to them in a while and you’re not just reaching out to sell her your products.

You have to rebuild that conversation first.

I hope these tips help.

And I really want you to understand that the approach is the same on Facebook as it is offline.

It’s all about building relationships!

Affirmations of Action

Are you feeling stuck in your business? Mel Robbins says that taking action is what you need to do.

Guess what, there are Proverbs that agree with her.

First of all, consider a Proverb that divides us into two groups. We can be lazy or diligent.

Proverbs 10:4 Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.

Another way of saying lazy hands is slack hands. I have to confess that sometimes I feel paralyzed by uncertainty and I don’t do anything for fear of doing the wrong thing. According to this Proverb that is the opposite of diligence.

The answer is to take action. Do whatever you can do. That can include prayer, asking your mentor for advice, looking for answers in the Bible, looking for answers on the internet. Do the next thing; even if it turns out to be wrong. It may just lead your to the next thing; which may be right. Keep moving. You will get where you are going.

Don’t be like the lazy who don’t finish the job.

Proverbs 12:27 The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.
Can you imagine shooting wild game and then leaving it to rot? Whether you like the idea of hunting or not, you will agree that not preparing and eating what you have killed would be irresponsible.
I am not a hunter but I can think of ways to apply this truth in other aspects of life.
What do you think about someone who buys a tree for their yard and then doesn’t dig a hole and plant it? What a waste! How lazy!
What about buying an expensive piece of meat and leaving it in the refrigerator and not cooking it? It will spoil and not be edible! What a waste! How lazy!
What if you sign up with a network marketing company and have spent money on product and sales materials; but then you are afraid to make calls because you are afraid of what people will think of you? What a waste! How lazy!
And there is a proverb that fits that lack of action; basically, the lazy avoid it all.

Proverbs 26:13-15
A sluggard says, “There’s a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!”
As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed. A sluggard buries his hand in
the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
This Proverb portrays almost comical action.
Can you imagine someone not leaving their house because there might be a lion roaming the streets?
Can you imagine someone not calling their best friend, favorite aunt or sibling and sharing the products and company you believe to be the best thing to happen to you because you are afraid they will say no?
It might be like a door turning on it hinges. It might be like a lazy person rolling over in her bed.
And incredibly it might be like a person who had put his hand in the dish and then was too lazy to take it up to his mouth to eat.
One could starve to death with those kinds of practices, couldn’t they? What do you think? Can you relate? I can.
And so we apply prayer and affirmation.

Prayer

Father God, I see that when I respond in fear or inaction You see it as laziness.
I ask that You will remind me when I am responding with slack hands that I am created in Your image for greatness.
Remind me that Your purpose for me will require me to step into scary situations as if there were a lion roaming in the street.
Thank you for the extreme examples you have given and nudge me when I am in even the little circumstances that cause me to hesitate instead of act.
Grant me the will and ability to act for your glory and honor. In Jesus name, Amen.

Affirmation

I am not afraid of _________________________________________________ (making phone calls, doing Facebook Live, etc.).

I know I am working toward perfection.

I am fearless when I make presentations.

I am a leader who inspires my team.

I am confident that the right people are being drawn to me through my actions.

Remember, that affirmations are to be worded in present tense, as if what we are working toward is already reality. The prayer is directed toward God. The affirmation is directed toward our brain and aligns our thinking with what is God’s will. That makes it important to base our prayers and affirmations on the Word of God.

I Was Stuck With No Options; There Was No Place to Go But Up

I had finally mastered network marketing with my warm market and tweaking that to share with my cold market.

Then everything changed.

I was stuck with no options!

Except the one that would change my business and me.

But it took me a little while to figure it out.

I had finally figured out network marketing and learned to love it.

Five years before, my daughter had invited me to watch a video. I had been approached by network marketers before. If I didn’t know what she was up to, I figured it out soon after.

I watched the video and was introduced to a real “category changing” product with impressive science to back it up. The science was peer reviewed. As a grant writer, I knew that if you had unbiased research, you had a winner.

So I said to my daughter, “That sounds interesting. How much does it cost?”

She told me; then I asked, “How much if you are a distributor?”

She said that customers paid the same price as distributors. It was a bit pricey for my non-profit director paycheck; but I was already sold.

She sent me a link to more science info and asked if I would get on a call with her mentor.

I agreed.

I don’t really remember the call.

I don’t remember the next few days or my decision making process; but shortly after the call I signed up as a distributor.

I said two things to myself.

First, since product came with my enrollment, I said, “No matter what happens, you have a year’s supply.” That demonstrates that I really believed in the product and wanted to keep taking it.

Second, I said to myself, “You’re all in now.” That demonstrates that I really intended to be a network marketer.

I didn’t exactly love network marketing, so it should have been a surprise that I joined.

Why did I join?

First, someone I loved and cared about invited me.

Second, there was a quality product that I believed in.

Third, the timing was right for me. My daughter didn’t know it but I was getting ready to leave my job to care for my mom. I needed another source of income.

That clearly shows three key aspects of being successful in network marketing.Three keys for success

Relationship is key. Even when we are building our business on line, having a relationship is important.

Quality product and compensation plan are perhaps the least important of the three, but they are still important. Perhaps, their importance is creating your passion that will have an impact in your conversations with people you are sharing with.

Timing – as in the timing for your contact – is most important. Everything else may be in place but if your friend is not ready to make a big change, it is not the time.

And don’t kid yourself or your friend, they will need to make some kind of change.

There will need to be commitment and sacrifice, if success is desired.There will need to be a commitment and sacrifice, if success is desired.

Five years into my network marketing journey, I was sold on network marketing profession, the company I was with and the products.

I was actually feeling comfortable reaching out to my “cold market” and I was prepared to call my “warm market” one more  time.

But then my life got complicated. Mom needed hip surgery; and my role as caregiver grew.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining. I am glad I can care for Mom.

As a matter of fact, if things hadn’t changed, I wouldn’t have started looking for something else.

I would be building my business with “old school” network marketing. My business would be growing; but I might never have found “new school” recruiting.

I might have missed out on what I consider to be the most important leg of a healthy network marketing business.

Today, a network marketing business needs three legs to be successful

Today, a network marketing business, to be stable and strong, needs three legs.

Leg number one is your warm market. Your family and friends will frustrate you if you expect them to join you in your business. Of course, some of them will; and you’ll have a blast building your businesses together. But most of them won’t. That’s okay; you’ll get to practice your skills on the rest of them.

Leg number two is your cold market. The servers where you eat out; the receptionist in the dentist office; your massage therapist. Let your sponsor/upline give you their tips. Or message me for my tips.

Leg number three is the world wide web! Your database will grow exponentially with this one. But you will need new skills. Get this freebie to check it out.

Truly, you need a different skill set for each leg of your network marketing business.

Some of the hardest people to introduce to network marketing are sales people, especially successful sales people. Because even though network marketing is sales, you need to come to the arena with a tabula rasa. You need to be coachable. Selling to people you know can get trickier that a Hollywood psychological thriller. And twice as scary.

If you started with your warm market, you need to tweak what you learned, to move into your cold market. The hard part of both of these markets is that no matter how good you are, more will say no than will say yes. To get a large organization you have to do a whole lot of inviting before you get the number of yeses you need.

The benefit of prospecting on the internetThe benefit of prospecting on the internet is that you can target those who are more likely to say yes. And there are more on that list than your whole warm market list.

When you engage with your internet market, you improve your numbers dramatically. Of course, you will need new skills to learn how to target and how to engage.  But, this is what I experienced; even before I had learned how to target and engage on the internet, I was already reaping an unexpected benefit.

Once I had made the internet my primary leg for prospecting, I didn’t quit sharing with warm and cold market opportunities.

What I experienced was a new freedom with those legs. The knowledge that if someone said no, I still had thousands on the internet, freed me from being desperate to get someone to say yes. Instead, I was only sharing if I sensed they would be interested. I was giving them information that had the potential to better their lives.

That made all the difference for me.

When I started building on the internet I was able to bring much of the relationship building skills I had learned building with Legs One and Two.

My advice for the rookie network marketer is to learn with the people you know. Let them know that you believe in the products and company that you represent and they want them to have a chance join you.

Be sure that you realize that you don’t need them. Remember that the majority of people don’t want to build a business. You are wired differently – just better – for you.

Use your sponsor’s help. They are committed to your success. Learn from them. If you don’t feel that your sponsor will help go to company events and find someone in your up line who will help.

Watch how different people in your company talk to people. One of them will have an approach that makes sense to you. Copy them. You’ll be more effective if you are using an approach that fits your personality.

Begin to master warm and cold markets and begin to learn about the internet market.

Internet network marketing is work. Anyone who promises that it isn’t, doesn’t know what they are talking about. Or they are lying to you. Either way you don’t want their help.

You might want to check out the program I ended up with. The neat thing about this one is that it has turned out a lot of 6 & 7 figures earners and they all end up doing things their individual way – the way that fits their abilities and personalities best.

When I found it I wondered if I should switch focus and quit my network marketing business. In the end, I decided for two streams of income instead of one. I like both companies; I am working both.

Focus on Your Future

No one has a perfect life. Let go of what's gone, be grateful for what remains and look forward to what is coming.

You have had disappointments and failure. Maybe even betrayal and tragedy in your life.

Sometimes there has been enough stuff to make moving forward feel pointless.

I know what that feels like. I have been there.

Just don’t stay there. That would be an even bigger tragedy and betrayal.

You would be betraying yourself.

Don’t do it.

And don’t let anyone tell you it is nothing. Acknowledge the disappointments, failures, betrayals.

They happen but they don’t have to identify us. Own up to them so that they won’t own you.

For me, hope is the best way to to move forward. And we do want to move forward, to put it all as far behind as we can.

What is my source of hope. It is a Bible verse.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

God spoke this to His people who were in exile in Babylon.   

I think they felt as if life was over. They must have felt hopeless and wondered why even try to move forward.

But the God who knew the future, told them to them to settle down and build lives for themselves. They were to marry and have children. They were to seek the peace of the city where they were now living.

They, like you and me, can only see the past and present. Only God can see the future; but as you trust Him you can know that He has plans for you that are good and full of hope.

Believe, work towards your purpose that He has given you. Enjoy family and seek the betterment of the community you live in.

Focus on the One Who has the future – knows the future.

Your Prayer:

Father God, You know the future as You know the past. I am trusting You with plans for my life. I am glad to have plans and a purpose for my life. Your way is good. You desire for Your people to proper and be happy where You have placed them. I yield to Your plan, Your future for me. In Jesus Name, Amen

Your Affirmation:

God has a plan for me. God wants me to build my life and seek the good of those around me. I have a hope and a future. I am excited to see what that is and will do what I am called to do today and tomorrow.

Remember that your prayer is directed to God to build your faith; your affirmation is directed to your brain to bring your thoughts and actions into agreement with God.

What Attracted You to MLM?

What is your story?

Did you look in the classified ads or Craig’s list for a business opportunity?

I didn’t either.

My daughter asked me to watch a video.2017-02-25 22.23.53

I said, that’s interesting. [I really did find the product interesting.]

How much does it cost, I asked.

She told me a number that was still a little high for my budget, so I asked what does it cost for distributors. [I knew the drill.]

She told me that customers paid the same as distributors if they signed up for an auto ship.

I was not looking for anything. But I watched a video. I checked out the links she sent me. I agreed to a three way call. I checked out her website.

And before you knew it I was a distributor.

I am not sure why.

Network marketing left a bad taste in my mouth.

Even after I signed up I wasn’t proud of what I had become.

But I was impressed with the product and I loved my sponsor. I connected with her up line and got to know more about the company and the industry.

Fast forward to today – I love network marketing.

I believe that it is the best business model for many.

I have come to realize it is a people business. It is a people helping business.

I love that.

And I love that I have discovered new skills that expand my reach.

It is still all about people; but now I get to reach out to people I have never met.
